Patricia Moreno

Directora General en Barceló Hotel Group

Barceló Hotel Group
Class of 2017

Roses, Spain Return

Where are you currently working?

I am currently working as Assistant Manager at the Barceló Group. Specifically at the Occidental Cala Viñas hotel in Mallorca.

My work day by day is to supervise all the departments of the hotel, so that they work and give our clients the best service. But we are also constantly looking at how we can improve and innovate. In addition to this, the deal with the client is a very important part of my work, since I am one of the people to whom the clients transfer their comments, doubts and concerns. From the management department we aim to meet the budget objectives and focus all the work on getting over it and increasing the satisfaction of our guests.

In the area of flats, I charge to supervise the department and control the cost of laundry and relations with this.

How did you get this job?

In third year of the Bachelor degree in Vatel Madrid, I did my internship as Assistant Manager at  Barceló Lanzarote Hotel. Through these practices and the evaluation that the group does at the end, I entered the PDB (Barceló Development Program). In my case, I decided to do the Vatel Madrid MBA, with the finance specialty, because I wanted to continue training and since Barceló encouraged me to do it for my training. It was certainly the best decision I made. As soon as I finished the MBA, I joined as  Assistant Manager.

Where do you imagine yourself in 10 years?

Within 10 years, I imagine running a hotel. I really think it's an achievable goal and I do not want to stay at that point, I would like to go further and for that I will give my best every day.

When you studied, did you imagine that this work would be like this?

When I started at Vatel Madrid, I could not imagine what the job was going to be like. Well, I really imagined something different. But it was in the early days when I became aware of the wonderful world in which I was entering. No doubt those first practices convinced me that I had chosen the best job in the world.

What advice you give to Vatel students who aspire to a job like yours?

The best advice I think I can give you is to try to do your best every day. I encourage you to live with passion and to enjoy what you do, because the most beautiful thing about the hotel is the dynamic work we have, but always with humility and with the know-how we have learned in Vatel Madrid.

Finally I would tell them to take the opportunity to study in a school like Vatel Madrid, very recognized in this sector, that will give them the knowledge and the needed support in order to launch in this precious adventure.

What qualities are necessary to work in this sector?

You have to be an active, dynamic person, wanting to learn every day. You have to be flexible, with great adaptability, without fear of change and open to new experiences.
